To celebrate the holidays this year Pack 171 will be having a special December pack meeting on Saturday afternoon. We will start with Christmas caroling at the Atria Senior Living Center to help brighten the holidays for seniors in our community. Please have your scout wear his class A uniform. This meeting will take the place of our regular pack meeting for December. The pack will provide pizza for only $5 per family! We request each family sign up to bring a dish to share. So come one and come all. Join us as Pack 171 celebrates the holidays!
Bring your pinewood derby car kit and your ideas. We’ll provide the tools, the patterns and the know-how to help you turn your kit into a nearly complete car! This workshop is one you don’t want to miss!
All cars must meet the requirements as described in the official Piedmont Council rules. Each car will be weighed and measured using a series of jigs to ensure all cars qualify for racing. Once checked in, your Scout’s car will be impounded in a secure area, and not touched until their race the following day.
Races will start at 1:00 p.m. We will start with an “open” race for parents, siblings, former Scouts etc. All rules will apply to this race except the 5 oz weight limit. For this race only, cars may weigh up to 10 oz. If you wish to participate in the open race, you must check in your car the night before, just like the Scouts do.
After the open race, we will be racing by Den, starting with the Lions, then moving on to the Wolves etc. Once all Dens have completed their races, the top cars in each Den will race one another to determine the grand champion! Top 3 finishers in the Pack will qualify to race winners from other Packs at the District Pinewood Derby on April 30 at Rocky Mount UMC!
A WEBELOS requirement is to attend at least one event with the Troop before advancing at the Blue & Gold banquet next year. There are only 2 Camporees offered – one in the spring, and one in the fall.
The Troop will arrive on Friday night to set up camp. Our Webelos Scouts will arrive Saturday morning at Van Hoy Campground to join the Troop for the remainder of the event.
You will need both full Class A and Class B uniforms, and closed-toe shoes/boots. Please plan on eating breakfast before arrival, and pack a lunch for Saturday. We will have dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday with the troop.
This should be a scout/parent only adventure. Each scout must fill out part A and B of the health form before arriving at the campsite. A doctor’s signature is not required for this event. The forms will be collected and kept together for inspection.
